If you are a sex addict you are preoccupied with sexual fantasy, arousal, and release. This has nothing to do with the object of your sexual attention and does not require any relationship. It’s the charge, the thrill, the obsession with sex which makes you a member of Sexual Addicts Disorder or SAD.
So are you someone who is highly sexed or a genuine sex addict? Here are some questions you need to ask yourself.
1. Do you need to keep your sexual needs a secret?
2. Are you acting out sexually despite your promises to stop?
3. Do you have sexual encounters with strangers?
4. Are you fascinated and obsessed with pornography?
5. Do you feel guilty about sexual activities?
6. Do you fantasize about sex with multiple partners?
7. Are you repulsed by your actions after a sexual encounter?
8. It is impossible for you to be faithful to one person?
9. Do you think there will never be enough sex to satisfy you?
10. Have you ever had sex with someone totally inappropriate for you?
11. Do you fantasize about sex with just about everyone?
12. Have you regretted sexual comments you made inappropriately?
13. Are you afraid you will get caught with a prostitute?
14. Have you done a sexual act for which you could be arrested?
15. Do you feel immoral and unable to control your impulses?
16. Are you sexually acting in a way opposite your spiritual beliefs?
17. Are you worried about the consequences of your risky sexual behavior?
18. Are you depressed because you cannot control your sexual behavior?
19. Do you compulsively masturbate?
20. Have you touched someone sexually on impulse and felt self disgust?
If you have replied ‘yes’ to 15 of these questions, you probably have a Sexual Addiction Disorder. You are a member of SAD. You have a real addiction and it can bring you down if you do not make a real effort to get this under control. It is worse if there is someone in your life who is enabling you and refuses to confront you about behavior you know is unacceptable. Like any other addict you are secretive, furtive, and guilty. You keep telling yourself you are going to stop but cannot do so. You are hooked and need a good reason to stop this behavior. Unless and until you see how this is causing trouble in your personal and work life, you are not going to make any changes.
