As soon as you hit the keyboard, you go to ‘favorite places’ and get to your chatrooms or porn sites. You are hooked. The internet is your favorite sex toy and you can use it without other people knowing about it, at least until your wife, husband, parents, or lover catches you. Then the jig is up. You are found out but sort of laugh and minimize it. After all, you say, no harm, no foul. You haven’t actually done anything. You are just surfing the net and seeing what’s out there, right?
You are probably a member of ISA (Internet Sex Addicts) if you are reading this blog. After all, you can read this without anyone knowing who you are and what you do. That’s a real attraction on the internet. You can sneak on, be anonymous, and click on a porn or ‘adult’ site. There are pictures, chat rooms, message boards, and all kinds of spots where you can fantasize and virtually get intimate with someone with no strings. If alone, you can masturbate to your internet thrills and get off solo.
Before the internet ,you may have been reluctant to go to places or buy items for sexual purposes and possibly be seen by someone you know. Now you can get to sexual content and activity quick and secretely. Perhaps you have a deep, sick fantasy you have been nurturing, like sado masochistic sex and sex torture. Now you can go directly to site which exploit your dark fantasy. Everything is explicit on the net and if you want to see a beheading to get excited, it’s there for you. Violence is a sexual turn on for a lot of people.
The thing about internet addiction is that it keeps calling you, seducing you into even more graphic sites, always wanting more to get excited. And danger lurks when you crave the ‘real thing’ and make a date to go out and get it. The problem is, you never know who is at the other side of the chat. You actual life could be in danger.
Let’s do a quick check to see if you are a member of ISA group and a participant in the billion dollar internet porn industry:
1.Instead of going online for information, are you going on specifically for the sex sites?
2. Are you having sexual partners on the net, but telling yourself ‘It’s not real sex’?
3. Do you swear to yourself that you will stop, but find that you are unable to quit?
4. Have you used the internet at work to get on sex sites?
5. Do you lie about the amount of time you spend on sex sites?
6. If a family member catches you, do you laugh and say it’s just a joke?
7. Do you get involved in sex acts online which would be illegal in person?
8. Are you angry and irritated when asked to cut down your time on the net?
9. Is your internet sex better than what you are getting in real life?
10. Do you feel guilty and ashamed about your involvement with sex activities on the net?
11. Do you order sex items from online sites?
12. Do you use internet porn for masturbation?
If you answered yes to at least 9 of these questions, you are in the ISA Group. You are completely hooked and you know it. If you are not on these sites, you are thinking about being on them and getting quietly aroused. You depend on this ‘buzz’ to get you through the day. It helps you avoid thinking about unpleasant things in your life. And this is the secret. What is making you so unhappy that you lose yourself in make believe sexual activities?
