Suicide is something we don’t like to think about or talk about. Notice it is a topic people do not joke about. Around 150,000 persons in this country commit suicide ever year, and that is only the ones which are reported. In Florida as in other states, often law enforcement personnel who find deaths by suicide often do not report them as such.
Never say that it could not happen to you or someone you love. Even though it is a taboo subject, here are some fact you need to know.
It happens twice as often as homicide.
Men are 4 times as likely as women to commit suicide.
Women attempt it more often but fail.
Over 65% are committed with a gun.
People who live alone are more likely candidates.
Divorced people have a higher rate of suicide.
People with chronic or terminal illnesses commit it more often.
People with untreated chronic pain are good candidates.
Alcohol and drugs users do it more often.
